Across the country, there are all kinds of radio ministries. Our church, Community Bible Church, radio station WAGP 88.7 FM has been an effective way of helping our family grow. We have personally benefited from many radio ministries. With so many effective radio ministries already in existence, why Search The Scriptures?
With each new generation, God sends a fresh wind. He raises up younger leadership to carry the torch from one generation to the next. But not only do we carry the torch; sometimes we are called to add a fresh dimension. I have sensed for a long time that God has wanted to expand the teaching ministry of Search The Scriptures. God confirmed that vision through an individual who gave "seed money" to begin reaching areas far beyond our own radio station, which covers Beaufort, Hilton Head, SC and Savannah, GA.
It is very exciting to watch God work! Our goal is to see the new areas become self-supporting as people begin to listen and respond to the Lord's prompting in their lives. Already we are getting a wonderfully positive response - people who have begun to support Search The Scriptures, but even more important than that is that people are trusting Christ for salvation! That alone thrills my heart.
So what makes Search The Scriptures so fresh, so different from other radio ministries? I believe it offers a unique blend of expository teaching with a strong evangelistic effort. As more and more preachers have gravitated toward topical preaching (which has it's place), fewer and fewer teach through entire books of the Bible, so as to help God's people accurately handle the Word of Truth. I am committed to encouraging Christians to apply its truth to everyday living.
As I have watch our own church grow from an average attendance of 200 in 1990 to over 1200 today, I see that as people are first challenged with the gospel of Christ and embrace it, they need to know what the Bible says. Too often we preach a "feel good" message without the power of God's Word which convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. Why is God blessing the work here in such a "small town" of Beaufort, South Carolina? I believe it is because His truth is not watered down and He is sending people to those who are faithful to proclaim His Lordship. Too often Christians get involved in everything from politics to community service without being faithful to teach and preach the truth of the Bible.
